Types of Vehicles for Construction Material Transportation

Types of vehicles for construction material transportation

Brick is an artificial stone, which is strong enough. But it’s easy to damage it during transportation. Breaks and cracks are considered a defect.

There are three types of vehicles which are proper for transportation. The bricks and other construction materials can be delivered by automobiles, railways, and marine transport. The bricks are placed in the bags on the production line at the enterprise or near the warehouse. These bags are placed onto the trolleys which are suitable for ceramic stones and bricks.

It is rather convenient to transfer bricks into containers. The construction materials are placed into special containers in factory facilities. Then, a manipulator loads the cargo into the truck. The case-type container is a facility for brick transportation, which has a trolley and two side walls. When it is full of cargo, the container is locked.

Every type of vehicle has its advantages and disadvantages. Depending on the situation and sender’s requirements, the representatives of 3pl freight companies choose one to deliver fragile goods. Let’s look at it in more detail.

Automobile transport

Transportation companies often use special trucks for transferring ceramic construction materials. This truck must be equipped with a crane manipulator to transfer the bricks. But sometimes it’s possible to use usual trucks without special equipment.

You can deliver the construction materials by truck in bags and without them. If you don’t use bags, you need to put the first row of the bricks per edge along the body. The other rows are placed crosswise.

This type has some disadvantages. Firstly, the practice shows that a lot of bricks are damaged during transportation. Loading and unloading operations are done by people. The transport has a high-idling capacity for a long time.

Railway transport

It’s difficult to overestimate the importance of railway freight transportation. This type of vehicle is the cheapest and quickest. Also, you can send a big part of construction materials at any season and any time. It’s profitable to deliver big parts of bricks.

Usually, the transportation of construction materials by railway includes the use of open semi-wagons, closed wagons, and special containers. The materials are delivered in bags.

As for the disadvantages, you can deliver the goods only to some points. Sometimes, you can’t reach the exact destination point because of the absence of infrastructure.

Water transportation

You can use both river and marine transport. Earlier it was the main mean of transportation. But, still, it is one of the cheapest ways of delivery. Such kind of shipping is characterized by a low percent of damages or cargo losses. However, you need to cooperate with special services and use more equipment, than, for example, with truck delivery.

Speaking about the disadvantages of transportation by marine vehicles, you should understand that speed may not be appropriate. Also, the weather conditions and the season affect the transportation process.
